Poison ivy is one of those plants located in North America that have a nasty (and venomous) bite.

Anyone that comes into contact with one of these plants ends up with contact dermatitis, thanks to the allergen known as “urushiol”.

Of course, while there are a number of conventional treatments in the form of synthetic gels and creams, there are a few natural remedies that work too.

So, here are 4 natural remedies for treating poison ivy rashes:

#1: Baking soda

A combination of baking soda and water can help greatly with a poison ivy rash. Make sure you freshen the application every 2 hours upto 3 times a day. Taking a baking soda bath is also recommended before going to bed.

#2: Aloe Vera

Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, aloe vera is used in a number anti-itching creams. A number of natural creams that contain aloe vera can also be used so as to ease the aggressiveness of the poison ivy rash.

#3: Coffee

Good quality coffee can soothe a poison ivy rash, thanks to the presence of chlorogenic acid. However, with little research conducted on the effects of coffee on poison ivy rash, it should be used as a last resort.

#4: Potato paste

This remedy has been around for hundreds of years. All one has to do is to blend potatoes into a paste and apply it on the affected area. Its soothing effects will be felt for a while.
